I wanted to take

a Euro-step and hop with you

together toward

that orange and blue riot down the avenues

I wanted to laugh aloud 

and skip past the mathematics

past the billboards celebrating

“championship pedigree” past the souvenir 

shop with the Labubus poised to 

tag our blurring backpacks and Jordans 

past the lions Half-Nelson’d solo 

outside the library past the secret bar 

for cops thespians off Broadway past 

the security owls clearing out Bryant park and

past the Sixth Man and his futile claws

raised high above the bonfires on our heads

but I forget what words I’m meant to say 

at the buzzer because my bunnies 

speak for themselves 

I wanted to give 

myself to the orange and blue chaos, 

and you.
